MEDITATE on these SIMPLE TRUTHS

Matthew 6:21 

For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Ecclesiastes 4:6  

Better is a handful of quietness than two hands full of toil and a striving after wind.

I recognize that this idea of simplicity may seem like a modern idea, our culture talks a lot about minimalism, however the emphasis on the "simple life" or simplier life is found throughout the Bible and in the historic writings of the Christianity. Jesus Followers have devoted themselves to a simple life, some giving up their own comfort and possessions in order to live an uncluttered life. Now, I am not implying that we must sell everything we own, but I do believe that we are invited to model the "heart posture" of those we encounter in Scripture and history. Today let us look at a few examples that the Bible offers us.

Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. — Matthew 6:19-21

Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to be content with whatever I have. I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength. — Philippians 4:11-13

For our boast is this, the testimony of our conscience, that we behaved in the world with simplicity and godly sincerity, not by earthly wisdom but by the grace of God, and supremely so toward you. — 2 Corinthians 1:12

When life feels confusing, distorted or complicated, may you meditate on these simple truths, so you too, can live a simplier life. Maybe we need to heed the advice of Ecclesiastes 4:6
