ZEPHANIAH 3:16-17



Sing, Daughter Zion;
shout aloud, Israel!
Be glad and rejoice with all your heart,
Daughter Jerusalem!
15 The Lord has taken away your punishment,
he has turned back your enemy.
The Lord, the King of Israel, is with you;
never again will you fear any harm.
16 On that day
they will say to Jerusalem,
“Do not fear, Zion;
do not let your hands hang limp.

17 The Lord your God is with you,
the Mighty Warrior who saves.
He will take great delight in you;
in his love he will no longer rebuke you,
but will rejoice over you with singing.”




Zephaniah 3:17 is such an awesome verse! We are reminded that not only is God all-powerful and is Mighty To Save but that this all powerful might to save God rejoices over us, and we are told that He rejoices over us with singing!



That is right the Bible says God sings over you!



The book of Zephaniah is a reminder to us that God has always been and always will be deeply involved in our lives. Zephaniah, the prophet recognized the sin around him. In fact, God had told him of the impending judgment against Israel and the surrounding nations. He knew, what we all know, that sin has its consequences, that sin requires judgment, but Zephaniah also knew that God is merciful and eager to forgive and ultimately that God's love and grace for humankind is overwhelming!



In the context of our verse, Zephaniah 3:17 the meaning of the phrase "rejoice over you" literally means "dance, skip, leap and spin around in joy." This verse is quite literally saying that God dances over us! The word rejoice is usually thought of as being glad or being filled with joy. What I find noteworthy is that the Hebrew word for “rejoice” means to “Spin around under violent emotion,” fancy way of a saying to DANCE.


Did you catch that? This is an important image for us to picture. Zephaniah 3 is saying that God dances over us ecstatically! He spins around under violent emotion because He delights in us!

Now take that
