Trust the Guide

Opening Prayer

Lord, thank you for this moment and for your Word. Quiet my heart and clear my mind so I can hear what you want to say.  Give me wisdom to understand, courage to obey, and grace to live out what I learn.  Amen.

Bible Reading

Proverbs 3:5–6

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

Reflection

Proverbs 3 starts with trust: trust the One who already knows the way.

“Lean not on your own understanding” doesn’t mean don’t think or plan. It means don’t treat your own view as the final word. There will be times when things don’t make sense — doors close, timing feels off, the next step is fuzzy. That’s when trust becomes real.

And the promise that follows is simple and beautiful:

“In all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

God isn’t asking us to figure everything out alone. God is inviting us to walk with him. I wonder if perhaps trusting God’s direction today looks like not having the whole plan but being willing to just take the next faithful step.

You might not know what the next six months hold. You might not see how a hard situation will end. You might not know where a new opportunity will lead. But you can start from this: God is faithful. The Bible repeatedly reminds us that God is faithful.

“The LORD is faithful to all his promises and loving toward all he has made.”  Psalm 145:13

That means our trust isn't based on having a clear picture of the future. It is based on knowing the character of the One who holds the future. Start there by saying, "God, I'll take the next step with you."

Prayer

Lord, today remind me to trust you.

Help me not to rely only on what I can see. Give me wisdom to make good choices, humility to listen, and courage to follow where you lead. Help me trust the Guide. Show me the next faithful step and give me the courage to take it.

Application

Here is a Practice for Today.

Before you make a decision or start something important, pause and pray:

“God, help me trust you before I try to figure everything out.”

Then ask yourself:

What is the next faithful step?  Just the next one thats all.
