In Colossians 2:6-7 we read how we are to live our lives as Jesus followers, as Christians. Did you notice what it said? We are to live our lives, in Christ Jesus, rooted and built up in him. Christ is our sure foundation, and the source for abundant, fruitful and flourishing lives.
Our passage to goes on to teach us that living our lives in Christ is also a matter of being "strengthened in the faith as you were taught.” Christian faith isn't simply a matter of feeling, although emotions are involved in our worship. Christianity has intellectual content built on the Bible. Living well in Christ rests on learning the truth of the Gospel and putting it into practice.
It is interesting in this passage that the Apostle mentions Gratitude or Thankfulness as a practical example of this Living well in Jesus. The followers of Jesus are to be known and recognized by their "overflowing with thankfulness." This overflowing thankfulness is a outcome of our experience of God's amazing grace in Christ. What we are being told here is that the more our roots grow deeply into Christ, the more we are built up in him, the more we will overflow with gratitude.

How have you experienced the love of God through Jesus Christ?
What helps you to overflow with thanksgiving?
LET US PRAY
God, I want to overflow with thanksgiving every day. I want to get up in the morning and rejoice in your grace to me. I want to receive every one of your good gifts with gratitude. Most of all, I want to abound in thanksgiving because of what you have done for me in Christ. May the truth of the Gospel, may the reality of your love, may the steadfastness of your mercy continually fill my heart with joy and my lips with thanksgiving. Amen.
