Amos 8:11–12
"The days are coming,” declares the Sovereign Lord, “when I will send a famine through the land— not a famine of food or a thirst for water, but a famine of hearing the words of the Lord. People will stagger from sea to sea and wander from north to east, searching for the word of the Lord, but they will not find it.”
Reflection
Amos describes the worst famine imaginable—not a lack of bread or water, but a famine of hearing the Word of the Lord. Physical hunger is painful, but without God’s Word, we have no light to guide us through a world filled with confusing voices.
I am thankful, our situation is different from the one Amos describes. Most of us have abundant access to God’s Word. We can open a Bible at any moment with just one click. We have sixty‑six Spirit‑inspired books available to us. We are surrounded by resources, translations, teaching, preaching, and digital access. We are not living in famine—we are living in abundance.
But abundance can be dangerous if it leads to neglect.
Let's feast on the Word ourselves, and drink deeply from it, recognizing that it is far more important than anything else in this world.
Prayer
God, we thank and praise you for the abundance of Your Word—its life, strength, joy, wisdom, peace, and hope. Your Word is a rock beneath our feet. Help us to recieve your word daily and not neglect your wonderful gift.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Feast on Scripture daily — Treat God’s Word as essential nourishment.
